The Market

Ethiopia is with over 103 million people the second-most populous African country in and borders Djibouti, Eritrea, Kenya, Sudan, Somalia and South Sudan. It is the fifth-fastest growing economies in the world. Traditionally, the economy is based on crop production and animal husbandry. Agriculture accounts for nearly half of the country’s GDP, 85% of exports and 85% of the labor force. The country has a total area of 111 million hectares, but only cultivates 36 million It grows grains, oil seeds, coffee, tea, cotton, flowers, fruits, and vegetables.

Ethiopia is the second-largest importer of agricultural machinery and fertilizers in Central and East Africa. Among the leading importers of Ethiopian products are Somalia, the Netherlands, Saudi-Arabia and China.
