The Far Eastern Federal District, territory of which amounts to 36.4 % of the total area of Russia, is the largest Russian region. Agriculture is an important sector of the region’s economy. Fish farming, cultivation of soybean, grain, vegetables and potatoes, as well as dairy and beef cattle breeding are of high importance. The total agricultural area including pasture fields, amounts to 137 mln. ha, which is only 22 % of the total area of the region. The Far East is of strategic character due to its proximity to China, Japan and Korea. From 2017 to 2020 the region will receive funds from the Federal Budget in the amount of 8.4 bln. Rubles to support agriculture, in particular for development of infrastructure and modernization of agricultural machinery.
Vladivostok is the administrative center of the region Primorye and is located just 50 km from the Chinese border. The „free port of Vladivostok“ offers enterprises located on its territory reduced tax rates and other preferences.
