The Market
Ukraine is one of the largest agricultural markets in Europe, with approximately 41.3 million hectares of agricultural land, including 32.7 million hectares of arable land. The country possesses vast areas of highly fertile chernozem soils, which contribute to high productivity and make Ukraine an important producer and exporter of grains and oilseeds.
Agriculture remains a key pillar of the economy: the sector generates about 7.4% of GDP and provides employment for roughly 14% of the workforce. More than 50% of Ukraine’s total exports are agricultural and food products. The leading export commodities include wheat, maize, and sunflower products, which are widely supplied to European and global markets.
The Ukrainian agricultural sector is represented by both large agribusinesses and numerous small and medium-sized farms, creating a flexible and diversified market structure that is attractive for international partners, including companies from the EU and Germany.
According to data from the State Customs Service of Ukraine, the volume of tractor imports in January–October 2025 reached USD 703.83 million, an increase of 6.6% compared to the same period in 2024 (USD 660.51 million).
The main supplying countries were:
-
USA – 22% of total imports (USD 154 million)
-
China – 17.2% (USD 121.1 million)
-
Germany – 16.4% (USD 115.6 million)
In 2024, Germany was the leading supplier (USD 101.5 million), followed by China (USD 91.6 million) and the USA (USD 86.9 million).
Imports from other countries decreased by 17.7%, amounting to USD 313.1 million in the first ten months of 2025.
