The Market
Saudi Arabia is a country located on the Arabian Peninsula between the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf, with a population of approximately 35 million, around 40% of whom are foreign workers. The country spans 2,149,690 km² and has a coastline of 2,640 km.
Saudi Arabia is pursuing an ambitious development strategy that includes expanding its agriculture and food production sectors. Despite climatic challenges and limited water resources, the agricultural sector continues to grow. Between 2013 and 2022, the average real growth rate was 3.3%, with agricultural value added increasing by 3.9% in 2022.
Currently, Saudi Arabia can only meet 20 to 30% of its total food demand through local production. However, high self-sufficiency rates have already been achieved for many plant-based products, such as dates (118%), zucchini (110%), cabbage (110%), and eggplant (106%). For animal products, self-sufficiency in milk and eggs exceeds 100% (milk: 121%, eggs: 112%).
The food and beverage manufacturing sector is the second-largest industrial sector in the Saudi economy. Investments in this sector are expected to reach USD 70 billion by 2030, an increase of USD 44 billion since 2016.
The poultry market is currently valued at USD 17.3 billion and is projected to grow at an average annual rate of 4.11% over the next five years. There is strong demand for technologies and services related to feed production, packaging and processing, veterinary medicine, and logistics.
By 2026, Saudi Arabia expects to have a livestock population exceeding 4.5 million animals, requiring advanced solutions for animal husbandry, feed technology, and veterinary services.
Saudi Arabia is also emerging as a regional leader in food exports. In 2021, the country exported food products worth USD 3.7 billion, including dairy products, eggs, vegetables, and fruits.
