SIFEL 2016
The Exhibition
Agriculture is Morocco’s most important economic sector, contributing 15% to the GDP. However, country’s food industry is heavily dependent on imports from abroad. The largest share of its imports is concerned with grain imports, followed by seed potatoes and various types of fruit seeds. There are around 1.5 million farms in Morocco, of which only 10% are involved in professional trade structures. These farms are the target group for foreign companies in such sectors as agricultural machinery, basic seeds and agrochemicals, as well as in the food processing sector.
The Market
Within one decade SIFEL has developed to one of the most important and internationally renowned agricultural fairs in Morocco. At last year’s edition of SIFEL 205 exhibitors and 142 co-exhibitors participated. 38% of the exhibitors were international companies from Italy, China, Germany, Camerun, Gambia, United Arab Emirates, etc. The venue is located in Agadir, the center of Moroccan fruit and vegetable production. In addition to seed and plant breeding, the exhibitors present agricultural machinery, fertilizers, pesticides, irrigation and greenhouse technology.
