The Exhibition

Expoagro is the most important open-air agroindustrial exhibition in Argentina. It is organized by Exponenciar S.A, with Clarín and La Nación as shareholders, the main newspapers in Argentina. It is held once a year, for four days, 225 km far from Buenos Aires, in San Nicolás, in the heart of Argentina, so called “pampas”, the most productive and highly potential region of the country.

Thousands of visitors from Argentina and the world participate in this mega agribusiness meeting, where the latest technology in agricultural machinery is demonstrated in real conditions for contractors, producers and visitors in general.

In addition, Expoagro displays the latest technologies in seeds, phytosanitary, livestock and services for the sector.

It is a meeting where all the players in the agribusiness world can update and analyze the most important issues of the agribusiness agenda, with a professional business environment. During four days, buyers, sellers, service companies and institutions, and international business rounds, all together, make Expoagro the most expected exhibition of the year.

The Market

According to GTAI, Argentina’s agriculture is highly productive and is one of the few internationally competitive sectors of the country’s economy. Officially, the sector contributes only 8.4 percent to GDP. However, it is estimated that one third of all jobs are directly or indirectly dependent on it, including all upstream and downstream industries such as agrochemicals, mechanical engineering, transport, trade, etc. In addition, agriculture is one of the country’s most important foreign exchange earners and taxpayers.

Argentina sold goods worth around US$ 90 billion abroad in 2022, of which around 61 percent were agricultural products, according to the statistics office INDEC.

For the 2023/24 season, the Rosario Stock Exchange (BCR) in Argentina expects production of

  • 47.8 million tonnes of soybeans,
  • 56 million tons of maize,
  • 15.6 million tons of wheat,
  • 4.2 million tons of sunflowers,
  • 5.4 million tonnes of barley,
  • 2.4 million tonnes of sorghum and
  • 4.9 million tonnes of other agricultural products (cotton, canaries, rice, oats, safflower, rye, rapeseed, flax, peanuts, millet and durum wheat).

Despite these good results, Argentine agriculture is falling short of its potential, regardless of short-term weather phenomena. The reasons for this are the high tax burden, for example tariffs on soy exports: 33 percent, on imported tractors 35 percent, and the impossibility of even using self-generated foreign currency to buy modern technology from abroad.

The new Argentine president, Javier Milei, wants to turn the country upside down politically and economically. In doing so, he wants to achieve the abolition of the Argentine peso, the introduction of the US dollar (US$) as the national currency and a rapid opening of the economy to the outside world.
