The Market

The agricultural and food industry remains the most important sector of the Ukrainian economy. The majority of production is currently focused on goods with low to medium added value. For foreign companies, there are many business opportunities, especially for suppliers of technology and high-quality food products. The fertile black soil and extensive cultivation areas continue to make Ukraine one of the world’s leading agricultural countries. The local food industry also benefits from this.

As the most significant sector, the production of food and beverages amounted to approximately 23.8 billion US dollars (US$) in 2021, accounting for around 28 percent of the total output in manufacturing. According to data from the State Statistics Service, Derzhstat, there were a total of 6,108 companies operating in these sectors in 2020, including 64 with more than 250 employees and a turnover of at least 50 million euros. In addition to national and international companies, vertically integrated agricultural holdings are also among the industry giants. Increasingly, international companies are using their facilities in Ukraine for deliveries to third countries due to favorable production costs.
