10 - 12 September
Cairo, Egypt
Deadline for German Pavilion: 26.06.2023
Deadline for international companies: 13.07.2023

The Exhibition

SAHARA is the most important exhibition in the field of agriculture and animal breeding for Africa and the Middle East. Manufacturers, processors, sales companies and other experts from the field of agricultural engineering meet in Cairo every year. The exhibition offers the opportunity to network with new potential partners, launch new products, acquire new business partners and increase sales. In addition to the trade fair, specialist conferences are held on important developments in agriculture.

The 35th edition of the international trade exhibition SAHARA is supported by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) in cooperation with AUMA E.V. and VDMA with a joint company stand.

The fair takes place from 10. -12. September 2023 in Cairo/Egypt under the auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation (MALR) and is the most important platform for agriculture, animal production and aquaculture in the MENA region. Attendance at the show facilitates access to new markets and offers valuable networking and business opportunities as the show has enjoyed strong international participation from exhibitors and visitors from Africa, Europe and Asia for over 30 years.

The Market

In addition to cotton as one of the most important export products, sugar cane, corn, rice, wheat, millet, potatoes, barley and onions are grown. Other products include watermelon, citrus, mango, dates, figs and wine.

The Ministry of Agriculture is aiming for greater self-sufficiency in the country. For example, Egypt is still highly dependent on imports of wheat and maize. In order to control cultivation, the Egyptian state sets the purchase prices for various crops. Raising or lowering these prices creates incentives for planting. In addition, temporary import and export duties, for example for sugar, serve to ensure supplies to the domestic market at reasonable costs.

The Egyptian Ministry of Investment puts the number of local food manufacturers and processors at almost 7,000 companies in 2018. Almost half of these companies process agricultural products, followed by manufacturers of pasta and sweets, followed by milling products, with 1,437 and 598 companies respectively. According to the Foreign Agricultural Service, these generated a total turnover of US$ 17 billion in 2018.

Agriculture remains one of the most important sectors of the economy, accounting for over 15% of the region’s GDP. In addition to cotton as one of the most important export products, sugar cane, corn, rice, wheat, millet, potatoes, barley and onions are grown. Other products include watermelon, citrus, mango, dates, figs and wine.

With the size and growth of the Egyptian food and beverage market, so does the current demand for food and packaging machinery. Egyptian companies source a large proportion of these machines from abroad and the focus is on modern machines.
