Exhibition sector – Rybpromresurs
In 2017, Rybpromresurs welcomed 99 exhibitors showcasing refrigeration equipment and solutions in the fishing industry.

Since Russia imposed a food embargo the government‘s focus has shifted towards self supply. The Russian government has introduced a programme to increase the annual fish production by 2020 to 315,000 MT in order to reduce the country‘s dependence on imports. With an annual catch of 4.8 MMT Russia is one of the TOP 10 fishing countries. So far Russia produced 160,000 MT of aquaculture fish. Due to badly equipped production facilities, infections and insufficient feed quality the sector failed to reach higher results.

The Market

The imposed import ban on food has led to a steady increase of domestic food production in Russia. International manufacturer of agricultural, food and packaging machines are not affected by the import ban so that they benefit from increased investments of Russian manufacturers in the modernization of their facilities, especially for crop, meat and milk processing.

According to GTAI, food and beverages totaling 6 billion rubles (about 85 million euros) were produced in Russia in 2016 leading to a 60 percent growth in supply of domestic products in the retail sector in the last three years.

Government subsidies worth one billion rubles (15.6 million euros) supported manufacturers of Russian food technology in 2017. About one billion rubles of subsidies will be made available for the agriculture and food industry by 2020 striving for independence from food imports in the next seven years.
